3 reasons you aren’t achieving
Thursday, September 2, 2021As an evidence-based coach, people sometimes come to me and say: I’m clear on my goal but for some reason I just can’t make it happen.
There are a few barriers I see over and over [and over!] getting in the way of stellar achievement.
Here are three of the usual suspects:
+ It’s the Wrong Goal
This is the big one! The King Kong of barriers. The goal might be wrong because:
- It’s not intrinsically connected – you’re doing it because you think you should and not because you really want to
- It is incongruent with your other goals
- The timing is wrong
Or because of a number of other factors.
+ You’re not doing the work
Ouch.
Yep! If the goal is right but you still aren’t achieving, it could be because you are not doing enough to make it happen.
The challenge here is to work out what is getting in the way of you doing the work and then, to address that barrier.
- Do you not have a great plan? Then start with making one.
- Do you feel like you don’t have time? Work out where you can refine your life in order to make time.
- Do you feel like you don’t know how? Work out your gaps in knowledge then find out how to fill those gaps.
- Do you just feel exhausted? Actively design a strategy to start replenishing your reserves then put it into action.
+ You’re staying safe
The goal could be spot on and you could be working super hard but you might be putting all your effort into action steps that feel comfortable.
Getting to the life you want, the life that feels incredibly satisfying, the life that is bigger and bolder, requires discomfort. You cannot get there without feeling at least a little bit embarrassed or nervous or shy or stupid or completely bloody terrified.
You need to go further.
*
There are a whole number of reasons why your achievement has stalled [or why it never took off in the first place]. Evidence-based coaching can help with exploring what’s going on and designing a new approach to get you focused and working in a way that’s really going to work.
Super!
