Monday, April 10, 2017You can spot Shiny, Happy People a mile away! They emanate energy and a sense of wellbeing. They stand tall and look outward and yet there’s a sense that they know and like themselves, deeply. There’s something about them that’s incredibly warm and engaging; you find yourself drawn in.
Shiny, Happy People aren’t about fake and saccharine perfection. They feel the tough stuff and the brilliant stuff too. They know how to love life and they’ve worked out how to soak up every last drop of its excellentness.
Shiny, Happy People aren’t magical, mythical unicorns. You can be like them too.
+ Smile
A Shiny, Happy Person connects with other people. She’s not necessarily a massive extrovert, but she finds and creates opportunities to build relationships. She’s the one who chats with the barista, who remembers the Big Issue Seller’s name, who smiles at people she passes on the street, who makes eye contact as she shakes hands, who puts her phone away at drinks.
+ Hunt Joy
A Shiny, Happy Person seek out joy, for joy’s sake. She might walk the long way, to go past the blooming jacaranda or have a beautiful coffee cup on her desk or hang an adored nephew’s artwork above her sink or wear her favourite dangly earrings on a grey day. She actively seeks out moments of beauty and feel.good.ness. Just for the sake of it.
+ Embrace Perspective
A Shiny, Happy Person has setbacks [everyone does]. But instead of seeing those experiences as a personal affront and worrying that they will last for ever and affect everything, she tends to put them in context. And then she chooses to reconnect with what really matters and to focus on what she can influence [to get her to where she really want to be].
+ Focus
And A Shiny, Happy Person knows where she wants to be. She actively sets goals and identifies action steps and tracks her progress. And then she celebrates when she gets there!
+ Get Stuck In
A Shiny, Happy Person knows the stuff she loves doing and she actively seeks out moments of complete immersion. Whether she’s writing or painting or crunching numbers or designing costumes – she loses sense of time and self. She is challenged and absorbed and energised. She is exactly where she’s meant to be.
