A Creative Life
Wednesday, February 5, 2020As a life and career coach, so many women say to me that when they were kids they were creative and loved it! But in growing up they lost that creativity, and they miss it.
There are different ways to think about creativity. It doesn’t have to be about drawing or painting or making jewellery or doing craft activities with your kids.
I agree with John O’Donoghue [whose interview with Krista Tippett here, is a reminder of beauty and life and all that matters and will most likely reduce you to tears] when he says that everyone is an artist.
Everyone, he explains, is involved in the construction of their world – always shaping it and building it. The act of living is a creative one.
The moment you think about living as a creative act, you become a creative person. So regardless of whether you’re good with pens or oils or glitter-glue, you have the opportunity to elevate yourself through living consciously.
You might like to try:
+ Walking slower and noticing beauty around you
+ Unplugging for a while – sit on the tram without scrolling, drive without listening to a podcast, leave your phone in the boot of your car overnight
+ Initiating conversations with people – your friends and family and also, neighbours and colleagues or the person standing next to you while you wait for your coffee
+ Noticing your patterns of behaviour – the ones that support you and the ones that are less helpful
