Be a Good Human
Monday, January 22, 2018You know one of the easiest ways to start living a life that feels good?
Concentrate on Being A Good Human. Even [especially] when no-one is watching.
If you think about it, Being A Good Human is really just code for living in accordance with your values. But the term values can be slippery and as a coach, I’ve found that it scares a lot of people off. In contrast, Being A Good Human is accessible, it seems to just make sense.
But I get that the way it looks will be different for everyone. So here are some very simple ideas to get you started!
+ Pick up the pasta packet that has fallen into the aisle ahead of you
+ Always give your partner/room-mate/friend the best coffee/sandwich/piece of cake
+ Speak respectfully to your kids
+ Wave thank you, when another driver lets you in
+ Take your neighbour’s bins in
+ Speak up when you’re given too much change
+ Write positive feedback when you receive great customer service
+ Be polite to telemarketers
+ Choose gentle language, when speaking to yourself
+ Put your phone away when someone is taking your order
+ Hold off on unnecessary criticism
These might seem like small things. Probably because they are. But the effect of putting good stuff into the world is cumulative. And the biggest impact is the one it has on your own self-perception.
Knowing that you can choose to be A Good Human, on your own terms and even when others won’t see, is incredibly empowering. You begin to see the influence you can have on your own world and know that you can effect even greater change.
So good.
