Be Life-minded
Monday, March 20, 2017We are social beings and so it’s only natural that we compare ourselves. But sometimes comparisons can leave you feeling pretty flat and Less Than. Even when you’re comparing yourself to people whose lives you don’t even really fully aspire to.
You know how it goes:
- you would like to have as much money as your cousin, even though she doesn’t get to see her kids much
- you dream of a bigger house, even though you know your colleague’s relationship really suffered through a drawn-out renovation
- you want a fitter body, even though your friend often ditches social events to go to the gym
- you would love more instagram followers even though your bestie has thousands but never seems satisfied
If you find yourself comparing unhelpfully, I would suggest this: consciously seek out and focus on life-minded people – people who seem to subscribe to the same values as you, who seem to live the way you believe in living.
Hang out with all sorts of folk [of course!]. But try highlighting/emphasising/holding up the people who encourage in you, more of what you celebrate.
And then, notice what shifts.
