Friday, February 7, 2014Tonight I went to hear Martin Seligman speak about developments in Positive Psychology. Sitting there, listening to all his ideas made my little.nerd.brain ridiculously happy. But you know what really made the night great?
I arrived in the city a little early and so I decided to have a wander. It’s something that I love to do and haven’t had much of a chance for since welcoming My Little One. So I crossed the road and as I did I heard a huge, big, happy Alex Kingsmill!! It was one of my most favourite people in the whole wide world, who just happened to be walking down that stretch of street at exactly the same time as little.old.me. So thrilling! She had her own little person to rush home to but before she did we had a huge hug and a one.million.miles.a.minute catch up on something incredibly exciting that she is doing at the moment.
So then I decided to go into the venue a little early. It’s another thing I like to do, to feel the crowd and the anticipation build around me. And as I did I heard another Alex!! Two more of my favourite folk, who live A Long Way Away but who were in town to help with the conference. I hadn’t even known they would be here.
And then my friends, as I sat down, I struck up a conversation with the most beautiful man sitting next to me. He had come with his daughter and while she was speaking with colleagues, we got gasbagging. He was lovely and positive and incredibly kind.
Prof. Seligman focuses on five key areas of wellbeing: Positive emotion, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning and Accomplishment. Tonight, lovey people, it was the connecting with others aspect that really sparkled.
