Friday, May 29, 2015I often seem to end up talking to folk about the jobs they do and the jobs they’d love to be doing. I don’t engineer the conversations or anything, it just works out that way. [And it tends to remind me that I’m in the right job, myself].
Last week I had two conversations within hours of each other. Super similar but starkly different.
The first was with a nurse, who told me that her dream was to work at the Children’s Hospital. Cool! [I said]. You should do it. I can’t [she replied]. I’m too old.
The next conversation was with a carpenter who was probably around the same age. I really want to move to Magnetic Island [he told me]. I’m also a cook [he continued] and I want to set up a curry truck. Cool! [I said]. You should do it. I am! [He replied]. I went up there last week and found a great house and met an old friend who wants in too. It’s all coming together.
I found myself thinking about where each of them would be in five years time.
