Delight your life
Thursday, April 2, 2020Life at the moment feels pretty serious, you know?
The world has narrowed, we’re staying home. Lots of folk have lost work or they’ve had their hours reduced or they’re working from home in difficult circumstances. Most people are distanced from lots of the people they love, the people who bring joy to their every days.
We’re being told to keep looking after ourselves, in order to stay physically and mentally well. And there are so many great initiatives, particularly online yoga and dance and meditation classes and virtual drinks with friends and dinner parties. Fantastic!
I also wonder whether there’s room to turn back to real life, to find moments of self-care in the smallness of this current, limited experience. What if feeling good could come from delighting in what you’re already doing? What if your simple focus was to find ways, each day, to delight yourself?
Even when things are looking pretty bleak: peanut butter toast still sticks gratifyingly to the roof of your mouth; garlic smells amazing as it cooks; glimpses of blue sky still thrill, as they break through; tickled babies still giggle contagiously; books still bring a peaceful end to the day.
Life is still good, my friends. And there’s still room to delight in it.
