electric
Friday, September 27, 2013So, friends. Yesterday was a bit crazy.
It was windy in my neck of the woods. Super windy. And at about lunch.time, it suddenly sounded as though the world was collapsing. [Which obviously, it wasn’t.]
Roofing materials from a building site down our little street had blown off, catapulted towards our place and knocked out our electricity, leaving a live wire swinging in the breeze. eeeep! Combined with a grizzly Little One and a Lovely One far.away, it could have been A Big Horrible Mess.
But you know what? It wasn’t. And you know why? Because folk were lovely.
Suddenly my neighbour.from.across.the.street who I’ve never met was rushing over and helping me pick up big metal sheeting. The builders were there in a sec too, pushing me inside and saying: we’ll take care of it! The lady who I spoke to at the electricity company was as sweet as anything: just don’t touch that wire [she said]. And the guys she sent out came back twice, just to make sure everything was ok: we saw you had a baby. Finally, the builders were back too, with the phone number for their Big Boss: it was our fault [they said] so just call him and he’ll look after it all.
Isn’t that just the best story? I love it when folk are kind and helpful and honest, when they offer apologies and strive to make things right.
This morning [after coffee, naturally] I emailed the electricity company to send a BIG THANKS to their lovely people. I hope the message gets through.
