Feed your spirit
Wednesday, July 25, 2018We all know how important important it is to have strong, mutually beneficial connections with the people around us. Across cultures, social connectedness is consistently shown to boost health, wellbeing and longevity. A deep sense of love and belonging is really important.
I think it’s also interesting to consider the possibilities offered by daily interactions with folk you don’t know:
- Chatting with the checkout person about their new niece
- Waving hi to your postie
- Picking up someone’s glove and chasing them down to return it
- Asking the receptionist how their day has been
- Smiling at other mums as you pass each other, pushing your strollers
- Making eye contact with the person who takes your coffee order
- Saying thank you when someone lets you pass
- Having a laugh with the call-centre person
Daily interactions with people around you remind you that you’re human, that you’re in the world.
They feed your spirit.
