Find perspective
Monday, December 4, 2017When life isn’t going the way you want it to, it can be incredibly easy to fall into the trap of fixating on everything that feels wrong and raging against the injustice of it [It’s not fair! I can’t believe it! Why did they have to?! I can’t stand it!]
For a while, this narrowed focus can feel good [an occasional ARGHHHH! can feel cathartic]. But long-term, it can be incredibly disempowering and unhelpful.
Getting angry at what isn’t means you miss out on the opportunity to see what could be and to do what you can, to put those opportunities into effect.
If you’re feeling rotten about life or even just a bit sorry for yourself, it can be helpful to Get Some Perspective:
- Read the obituaries
- Lie under a massive gum tree
- Attend a big rally about something important
- Hang out with a newborn baby
- Climb a huge mountain
- Read a book about [or speak to] someone who has faced [and overcome] massive life challenges
- Go for a solo road-trip
Seeing the bigger picture can deliver a much-needed shake up and a reminder of what really matters. Your next challenge? To do something useful, with that insight.
