Find your Purpose
Monday, January 23, 2017Do you know why are you here? You know, really. Why are you here, right now?
Is it something you think about?
Your purpose. The significance of your existence. Your connection with and commitment to something much bigger than you.
Knowing your larger life-mission is incredibly grounding: it offers a strong theme for your identity; it provides a framework for your behaviour; and it gives you a sense of being in control.
But it can be hard to identify what a greater life-purpose might be.
If you feel like you would like an awareness of some bolder life-aim but you struggle to recognise one for yourself, this might help:
+ Be deliberate
Start noticing what is going on around you. Recognise illuminating experiences. Intentionally embrace opportunities for quiet restoration. Be aware and open. Take notes.
+ Respond
Be open to chance events that can transform your focus and your sense of personal meaning. Say yes to opportunities that come along. Notice what happens. Take notes.
+ Learn
Consciously observe the people around you. See how others’ behaviours result in certain outcomes. Consider what that might mean for you and for your search for greater meaning and purpose. Take notes.
A life purpose doesn’t have to be something as massive as Ending World Hunger or Finding a Cure for Cancer or Writing a Best Selling Novel or Developing a World Dominating App. It can be as simple [and as complex] as raising good humans or helping others be happy or creating beauty or supporting the environment.
What is your Life Purpose?
