Fix the niggle
Wednesday, January 22, 2020The coaching I do tends to focus on big questions – boosting confidence, identifying values, making conscious decisions, understanding self, determining life purpose. That kind of thing.
But you know what? I think it can also be really worthwhile to look at the smaller stuff.
Most people have things, as they go about their days, that annoy them and drain small amounts of their energy. I’m not talking big issues like relationship struggles or money challenges or career dissatisfaction. I mean really small things, like: a hook that always come loose in the bathroom; software that needs updating, an overstuffed hall cupboard; messy computer files; or a tax return that [still!] hasn’t been completed.
You probably wouldn’t choose to spend your coaching time exploring these niggly things. But addressing them before you come to coaching is a great way to create the headspace and energy necessary to support you in doing the work that really matters!
So why not make a list of just five small things that bug you every time you see them. And then commit to fixing one a day for the next five days. And then…maybe consider making it a regular practice.
