Game Changer
Monday, February 20, 2017I am a coach. Clients come to me wanting to design and build personal and professional lives that feel really, really good.
Often, the women I work with tell me that they know what they want but they just can’t seem to make it happen. Something, a problem, is getting in their way.
It might be that:
- they would like to be promoted but they struggle to meet deadlines; or
- they want to improve a relationship but they find it tricky to communicate their feelings; or
- they dream about starting a business but they can’t find the energy after work; or
- they crave a confidence boost but they struggle with negative thoughts.
When I hear about perceived problems, I tend to move away from them. I prefer instead, to listen out for exceptions: moments when the problem didn’t occur.
When I find an exception [there are always exceptions] I get curious. What was different in that moment? Why was it different? What did my client do differently? And then I ask how she might be able to replicate those circumstances, to encourage positive change.
Shifting from problems to solutions can be game [and life] changing.
