Sitting on my bed.side.table at the moment is Flourish, by Martin Seligman.
Mr Seligman could be my boyfriend, if it wasn’t for the fact that:
1. I already have a lovely Lovely One; and
2. Mr Seligman is happily married and has seven children; and
3. I hold him in such high esteem that I could only ever call him Mr.Seligman and that could, eventually, get awkward.
[Anyway, off.topic].
Flourish explores the concept of well-being and suggests five elements that make it up: positive emotion; engagement; meaning; accomplishment; and positive relationships.
I was thinking about positive emotion this afternoon as I was unpacking and hanging dresses. Kind of boring work. But all the colours and textures were making me happy – for no particular reason really. One made my heart especially glad: a green corduroy dress. Which actually sounds especially.foul but with its square neck, knee-ruffle and hint.of.the.Amish just can’t help but sing. Also, it makes me remember how my mum once said to me: A, you should wear more green, it suits you so much. And I sort of hmmmphed and thought why would I wear green when I could wear BLACK!?
But now I own a green dress and she would have liked it. And that makes me want to cry and smile at the same time.
[I think she would have liked Mr Seligman too].
