Here / there
Monday, October 9, 2017Coaching is very goal-focused. As a coach I am interested in who you are, where you would like to be and how to get you there. I am also very conscious of the importance of being in the now. And of knowing you’re ok where you are [even if being there is not entirely comfortable].
The two might seem incompatible: how can you be ok with where you are and be striving for positive change?
Here’s how:
Rather than raging against your current circumstances, hating where you are [my boss! my finances! my fear! my loneliness!] you choose instead, to accept them.
Now, when I say accept I don’t mean for you to give up and see the difficult circumstances as a permanent state. I’m more focused on acknowledging the situation and perhaps recognising the strengths you’re employing in being there.
Letting go of the struggle with your current state frees you up to focus on where you do want to go. And that is always energy well spent.
