Identify barriers
Wednesday, May 12, 2021When you’re gearing up for some seriously effective goal-striving, or if you’re currently trying to achieve something and you’re getting stuck, it is a really great idea to anticipate and address possible barriers.
Whaaaat? [I hear you say…] What does that mean?
All I mean is this: think about where you’re going and consider all the things that could possibly get in your way. Then, do all you can to proactively remove those barriers and so, eeeeease the way forward, towards some fabulous results.

Here are some examples:
+ Goal: set up an online store. Barrier: perceived lack of time. Action: reduce work hours, giving you an extra day a week.
+ Goal: exercise tomorrow. Barrier: no dry workout clothes. Action: hang your washing out the night before.
+ Goal: secure a promotion this year. Barrier: low self-confidence. Action: get an awesome evidence-based coach [yes!]
+ Goal: start a podcast. Barrier: don’t know how. Action: do a short-course.
+ Goal: lead a workshop for teammates. Barrier: terrified of public speaking. Action: ask colleague to join you.
+ Goal: be able to run 5km. Barrier: tried before and didn’t manage it. Action: download an app.

These are simple examples but they’re designed to demonstrate the strategy: think of a goal, anticipate barriers, address barriers.
Once you practice it enough, the approach becomes second-nature and your goal-striving capacity magically elevates.
So good!
