[life] designed
Monday, January 7, 2013I met a sport doctor on the weekend. She was terrific: super smart and lovely too.
She was telling me about how she works with elite athletes [oooh, my brain jumped] and we started discussing peak performance.
It is interesting [she commented] that Australian athletes in her particular field are still not being supported by consistent psychological training: despite athletes in other nations receiving that assistance and despite the mountain of evidence demonstrating the positive [and often critical] difference it can make.
All that talk started me thinking about the rest of us Regular Folk. About all the goal setting that goes on this time of year and about efforts made towards establishing new, more productive ways of being. Countless articles in newspapers and magazines depressingly predict that most brilliantly.intentioned.life.designs collapse in a heap early in the new year.
I wonder how those campaigns might go if they were supported by a little more knowledge about intelligent goal setting, by some evidence.based understanding of motivation and by some insight into positive, sustained change.
Just a few small tweaks can make the difference between staying where you are and getting to where you want to go.
