muscle
Monday, October 10, 2011There is a dog, that lives in the appartment below mine. It is small. And white. And fluffy. And it yaps. Lordy.lord! Does that dog yap. [yap.yap.yap]. I spend a whole lot of time at home, on my computer, studying. And trying not to crack it at The Yapper.
Some folk suggest that self-regulation works like a muscle: controlling your impulses can tire you out, leaving you with little energy for self-management. So, [they suggest] successful self-regulation is best facilitated by a pattern of oscillation – periods of self.exertion coordinated with opportunities for renewal.
It is a theory that has interesting implications for people trying to manage their behaviour [smoking or eating, for example] through will.power. Or for people trying to contain their impulse to Yap Back.
Friends, I think it might be coffee.time.
