No passion? [yeh right].
Tuesday, May 23, 2017You don’t have a passion? Weird, what’s wrong with you?
j-o-k-e-s!
Most people don’t have one single activity that sets their heart on fire, that fuels endless enthusiasm, that brings boundless joy. But strangely, the idea that you should have one persists. The suggestion features particularly heavily in the career hunting arena: follow your passion! Do what you love and you won’t work a day in your life!
Yeh. That’s nice. But what if you don’t really love anything that much? What if you don’t have a passion?
I hear it all the time. People not loving their work but not knowing what else they could be doing. I don’t have a passion [they say]. I’m not really into anything.
But I call them on that.
Because everyone is into stuff: sitting on your sofa eating chocolate and reading fashion mags; taking your dogs for walks and listening to podcasts; exercising and creating healthy meals; scrolling instagram and playing music; having coffee with your friends.
You’re already doing the stuff you’re passionate about, you just dismiss it because you don’t see how it could make you money.
It can, though. You just have to work out how. [And that’s where I come in.]
