Choose Your Response
Monday, March 28, 2016When you’re focused on positive, effective and sustained life-enhancement, there is one single change that you can make, that will change everything:
Choose your response.

A couple of days ago I received a call, from a producer at The Today Show. She asked me to appear on the show. The next day.
It was amazing and also sort of weird because just a few months earlier I had listed Appear On Morning Telly as one of my Big Goals Of The Year [yes! I too set goals and work towards them]. But still, here it was, being offered to me. Brilliant!
And so [of course] I said yes, we made plans and I hung up.
Now, before I go on, I have to explain: I am a pretty quiet kind of person. Someone who likes talking with people one-on-one. I don’t love being in the spotlight, I don’t relish public speaking and doing live telly in front of a few hundred thousand lovely breakfast-eaters is definitely not my preferred activity. But I do have a lot to share and I’m committed to living a bold, happy and fulfilling life. [hmmm, dilemma.]
So at that very moment that I had a choice. I could freak out, call friends and family and screech that I was so excited but ohlordy!howscaryandwhatamIgoingtodo?! Or I could choose a different response.
I chose something else. I chose to see this opportunity as a life experience. Something that will help me grow and make my internal world stronger and richer.
That choice completely shifted my experience. Even as I was sitting there, hearing the producers in my ear, listening to the hosts return from ad break, feeling my heart racing I was embracing this awesome [for me] event and really living [and loving] it.

Regardless of what is going on in it, you can choose the way you experience your world. The choice takes discipline and commitment but the results can be beautifully dramatic.
