Pareto your life
Monday, April 30, 2018Have you come across the Pareto Principle? It refers to an unequal relationship between inputs and outputs and states that 20% of the invested input is responsible for 80% of the results obtained.
I like the idea of thinking about this, when refining your life-design and deciding where to exert your energy:
- Friends: If 20% of your friendships are delivering the bulk of your joy, why not focus more of your attention on those connections?
- Business: If 20% of your efforts are generating 80% of your client base, it makes sense to direct greater effort to those activities
- Work: If 80% of your results come from 20% of your efforts, re-directing your energies would boost your professional effectiveness
- Leisure: If 20% of the activities you engage in deliver 80% of your fulfilment, doing more of those things would be incredibly life-enhancing
- Home: If you derive the greatest value from only 20% of the stuff in your home, why not throw the rest out?
Pareto-ing your life is a lovely [and simple] way to focus your attention on what matters. And to invite more of that in.
