Roadmap to change
Thursday, December 24, 2020If you ever come to me for coaching I will always help with the immediate challenges that you bring to our sessions. Of course I will! But actually? I’m interested in more than that.
As well as coaching you through what’s going on right now, my aim is to use that experience to share coaching fundamentals, so you will be able to coach yourself through any future challenges that arise.
So as we speak, I will always explain what I’m doing: what I’m listening out for; what notes I’m taking; what connections I’m making; what strategies I’m considering and how they might work.
One of the things I might share is the Roadmap to Change. It generally looks like this:
- Identify the issue – when you’ve sought coaching you’ve normally already done that
- Set a goal – sometimes we do this together, or I help tweak the goal to make it a great one!
- Develop an action plan – we determine a strategy for achieving the goal
- Act – this is where you go and put into action all we’ve spoken about!
- Monitor – this is the part that requires self-reflection: what’s going on? How am I tracking?
- Tweak – we change what’s not working and do more of what’s working well
- Act / monitor – we go through this process again, maybe a few times…
- Evaluate – this part requires insight: how did I go with all of this?
- Success – you reach that goal! And we celebrate!
Whether you’re coaching with me or coaching yourself, it can be really helpful to keep this simple process in mind – to stay focused and on track, with your goal striving and attainment.
