savour
Saturday, November 13, 2010Travelling for A Long Time is brilliant, in many (many!) ways.
But with all the moving and meeting and seeing and doing and tasting and smelling and feeling, I have often found myself distracted. I have not taken the time to notice and enjoy all the good around me. To savour all the amazing experiences.
And savouring is important.
Some folk are natural savourers. They naturally anticipate positive future events, relish the present moment and reflect on positive past experiences. And (as you might expect) these lovely people tend to be happier, more optimistic and less depressed than those who don’t savour.
The good thing is, if you aren’t naturally inclined to savour, you can train yourself!
[Sink into the experience as it is happening (block out all the other stuff!) Slow down. Share the experience with someone else. Talk about it afterwards, remind yourself how much it meant to you. Tell people that you did brilliantly (*snaps*!) Think about it some more.]
