Seeing Joy
Thursday, December 23, 2021It is really easy to think about the past couple of years in a great, big, negative lump: UGH! It’s been awful!
And I’m not here to say it hasn’t been; in so many ways, rotten. But I think that gathering everything that has happened over the past two years under one negative heading is a pity. Because it denies the moments of joy.
For most people [even, I hope, for people who have found recent times the most crushingly difficult] there have been touches of magic.
+ Maybe you brought a puppy home
+ Maybe you spent time walking the creek
+ Maybe you cooked amazing meals
+ Maybe you learnt how to engage differently with your anxiety
+ Maybe you made a friend on your street
+ Maybe you started writing letters
+ Maybe you read a beautiful book
+ Maybe you realised how much you love someone
+ Maybe you finally had the courage to start a side-business
+ Maybe you grew some herbs
+ Maybe you realised that you need to change a few things at work
+ Maybe you slept as much as your body needs
+ Maybe you got to know your kids
+ Maybe you slowed down
There’s been beauty and joy over the last couple of years, as well as tough stuff. I think it’s worthwhile seeing it.
