set point
Thursday, September 29, 2011Some folk suggest that happiness is based on a set point; that no matter what happens, your happiness will remain pretty stable. Life circumstances and what.you.do certainly play a part, but generally, your levels of happiness will tend to return to where they feel comfortable.
So, if something amazing happens, like winning a whole.big.bag.of.money, your happiness might peak. But you will eventually accommodate the change, get used to it and your happiness will return to its set point.
It’s an interesting theory and to a point it makes sense. Bt it fails to consider the power of Clean Sheets and Perfectly Peeled Oranges. I reckon that if beautifully clean, crunchy sheets magically appeared on my bed every night and oranges.with.all.the.white.bits.taken.off appeared at breakfast every morning my peak in happiness would be sustained.
