squiggle
Tuesday, March 27, 2012How do you think of your life?
As linear and unidirectional? Or as circular and multi-directional?
A linear [or Contiki-Tour] approach imposes a huge amount of pressure: you get one chance; you must make The Right Decision Now; and you can only go forward from here.
A multi-directional [or Self-Guided] approach is far more forgiving: you get as many chances as you choose; there is no Right Decision; you can revisit ideas and return to critical choice-points.
The Contiki Tour exposes you to great stuff and lets you tick off all the Major Sites. But the Self-Guided Tour allows you to choose your direction, it encourages you to linger in places that make your heart sing, it facilitates a re-visiting of experiences that might not have felt right the first time round.
Conceptualising Life as a squiggle rather than a straight line promotes possibility; it enhances happiness.
