tech
Saturday, December 13, 2014I really struggle with IT stuff. It drives me crazy. I have a business and a website and a blog and I’ve been managing them for years but still, my brain goes all swirly when people start getting all tech on me.
This morning I received an email from my web host saying that they were planing on auto-renewing my subscription and then quoted me an amount that might have sounded a little bit like A Million Dollars.
Normally I would just choke a little and feel sick thinking about having to do IT stuff so just agree to pay in order to avoid the trauma that would inevitably come with transferring web hosts. But that whole Million Dollar thing gave me a bit of an incentive and so I got my brave pants and did some googling. I learnt some stuff about web hosting and I made some notes and then I even called a few places.
The company I have decided on offers a great product, a good price and sound support. But what really sold me was the guy who spoke to me for half an hour, answering my [almost embarrassingly basic] questions. He was kind and courteous and calm and spoke to me like a human, giving me real answers not just lines from an instruction manual. I loved him! [I told him that and he laughed. I think maybe you aren’t meant to tell the IT support guy that they’ve made your day].
The whole experience has almost made me feel terrifically positive about IT. And a little bit proud that I chose the harder [but cheaper!] option.
Super!
