[the art of]

I read an article this morning about The Art of of Conversation. It suggested that boring people talk about other people, while interesting folk discuss events, ideas and concepts.
I guess I had thought about this before but I had never considered it so starkly.
Like me, you probably know those types whose main topic of conversation is What Others Are Doing. Sometimes their remarks are mean and scathing but sometimes they’re just matter of fact. Either way, they’re generally boring. Then there are those friends who know about stuff that’s going on in the world: art, blogging, travel, skateboarding, philosophy, bad.telly, fashion, environment, homewares. About all that stuff and more. They are curious about life; they’re interested and they’re interesting.
If you think about your general conversation, what would you say you spend most of your time talking about? Are you contributing or just commenting? Are you someone who other folk gravitate towards at a party or do you find the folk you’re talking to slugging back their drinks in order to excuse themselves for a top up?
