Difficulty
Monday, February 19, 2018I read an article recently, which I liked very much. It was about reading, about teaching adult students in higher education to learn how to read literature. It said that some students find it hard, too hard, they want the writing to be easily digestible. But the thing is, ‘the difficulty is the point…Critical engagement with literature enables critical engagement with living.’
ooohyes.
I can’t tell you how much I love that. And how much I love the idea of applying it more broadly – to life experiences, generally.
Clients come to me and they want change. But sometimes the path to that change seems too difficult.
The thing is: the difficulty is the point. Critical engagement with goal pursuit enables critical engagement with living.
So when you find yourself wanting to stop because it all just seems too hard, remember: you are exactly at the very point where the magic happens.
Keep going.
