Think big
Wednesday, July 11, 2018I recently received an email from a client who is incredibly smart and motivated and focused and lovely. She updated me on all the brilliant progress she has made since we worked together. And then she thanked me. For helping her ‘think bigger about what is possible’.
I liked that so much.
Sometimes it’s exactly all that is needed [in coaching or in life, generally]. The opportunity to think beyond what you have previously considered and to strive for more.
If you’re currently contemplating some positive change, you might like to expand your thinking.
Ask someone terrific [a coach or a friend or colleague or your Most Favourite Person] to sit down with you and play with ideas.
Over a coffee or a glass of wine or under a tree or tucked up the back of your local library. Get creative, throw ideas around about the stuff you’d love to achieve [the toe-tingling stuff]. Take notes, even [especially] on the goals that seems Just Crazy, absolutely beyond the realm of possibility.
Then together, map out a few Next Steps to get you moving towards them.
When setting goals, it’s pretty natural to limit yourself to what feels safe, to what you know you can achieve without too much discomfort. Having someone else involved in the process helps you to reach beyond what you know, into I-Wouldn’t-Dare Territory.
Which really, if you think about it, is where the magic tends to happen.
