What are you good at?
Monday, March 27, 2017Some people find it difficult to notice what they’re good at and almost impossible to express those talents, out loud. To them it can sound like bragging. If I ask them what they’re crap at they’ll easily reel off a whole list of things and then laugh, self-deprecatingly. But if I ask them their skills, they’ll sit in awkward silence. Eyes down.
I think it is important to recognise and express your talents.
I am a great mum. I write beautifully. I am a strong listener. I do what I say I will. I make a mean muffin. I am a terrific weeder. I read people well. I am good at finding and maintaining balance.
Knowing what you’re good at and feeling confident to express those skills isn’t about being arrogant or vain. It’s about standing tall. Lifting your gaze. It’s about understanding who you are and liking that person and knowing what she has to offer.
