What is success?
Monday, May 29, 2017I think there’s a pretty clear idea Out There [at least, in the society I live in] of what constitutes success: a big job, lots of money, significant influence, a shiny car, the latest screens, a fancy home, a hard body and a perfect family [among other things].
But I see a whole lot of people who don’t subscribe to this ideal. They don’t want to work 80 hours a week for someone else and be tied to a mortgage and attached to screens and not see their kids much and be under significant pressure and not spend time creating. They want something else and yet, they still feel the pull of that supposed ideal. They feel Less Than because they don’t conform, because they live differently.
I think it’s really useful to get very clear on your own version of success and then use that template to measure your efforts by.
So maybe you will know if you’re living your life well if you:
- help people
- create beauty
- work from home
- laugh every day
- have a cat
- hang out with your kids most days
- wear casual clothes
- camp a lot
- read books
- draw every night
- have meaningful conversations
- contribute to something bigger than you.
How does your version of A life Well Lived look and feel?
