What would you miss?
Thursday, October 28, 2021When clients come to me, seeking to make positive change in their careers and in their lives one of the things I am always listening out for is the resources they have available to them.
By resources, I mean: the stuff they can use to help them get where they want to go.
Resources can be internal: things like a strong moral compass, a real determination or a sense of confidence. Or they can be external: lots of money to out into a new business, a strong network of people to help with info gathering, an office to work from.
Resources can sometimes be hard to identify. In that case, I suggest this:
+ Step 1: Identify
Take a big piece of blank question and ask yourself this question:
If I think about my every day life, what stuff would I miss, if it were suddenly to disappear?
The answers that emerge might not immediately seem like resources to you: coffee, music, my garden, the funny old lady down the road who always gives me lemons…
+Step 2: Apply
But keep going. The next step is to take each of those elements and ask yourself:
How could I use each of these, in my conscious pursuit of positive change? What role could each play? How could each one help?
