Write it down
Monday, November 7, 2016One of the simplest tips I can suggest, if you’re keen to effect great, positive change is to write everything down.
Get a book that is unlined [the blank space encourages possibility], big enough that you can write/draw/stick stuff in and small enough to fit in your bag. And a pen that feels good to hold and that writes beautifully.
Then carry them both around with you, taking notes on everything:
- the goals you’re working towards
- your values
- your sense of purpose
- ideas that occur to you
- cool people you meet
- stuff you try
- fears and other barriers
- internal and external resources
- things that work well
- efforts that didn’t go as planned
- negative messages in your head
- ideas for blogs/newsletters/articles/stories
- great books you want to read
- writing that inspires you
- moments where you feel your best
- patterns that you notice
- courses you could do
- collaborations you could form
Everything. Write it all down. And refer to it often.
Your book will become a huge resource, full of ideas and possibilities and opportunities and contacts. It will also be an emotional support, offering you inspiration when your confidence and motivation dip.
Change doesn’t just happen. You have to make it happen. And a book is one of the most effective tools to help you do that.
